4 Ways to Make Fleece Tie Blankets

You can make fleece tie blankets for many organizations. The Linus Project is a non-profit organization which provides blankets for children in need. They request blankets made from only one piece of fleece. Where shipping and space is limited, such as Operation Christmas Child, one piece is also your best choice. Otherwise, a two piece quilt makes a warmer, more attractive blanket.

  • 1 or 2 Pieces of Fleece (See Chart)

Method 1 – Double Knot

(Only for two pieces of fleece)

Fleece Tie Blanket - Method 1

Tie each front fringe to the back fringe all around the blanket using a double knot. Make sure not to tie too close or the blanket won’t lay flat.

Method 2 – Overhand Knot

(For one or two pieces of fleece)

Wrap each piece of fringe around your index finger and push the end of the fringe through the wrapped loop. Pull snug.

If using two pieces of fleece, wrap and pull both the front and the back fringe pieces together, making one knot.

Method 3 – Lark’s Head Knot

(For one or two pieces of fleece)

After cutting your slits 1″ apart, fold the fringe down 3″. Make a small cut through the fold.

Loop each piece of fringe around and pull through the slit, pulling snug.

If using two pieces of fleece, fold and snip through both the front and the back piece. Pull the front and back fringe together through the slits, pulling snug.

Method 4 – Braided

(For one or two pieces of fleece. Nicer finish with two pieces)

Fleece Tie Blanket - Method 4

For this method, cut your corner squares and your fringe 2″ deep. After cutting your slits 1″ apart, fold the fringe down 1/2″. Make a small cut through the fold.

Open up one of the small snips and push the adjacent fringe through it. Then open up the snip on that fringe, pushing the adjacent fringe through it. Do corners in the same manner. When you complete the blanket, knot the first fringe with the last fringe.

If using two pieces of fleece, fold and snip through both the front and the back piece. Braid holding both the front and the back fringes together. Poke the knot inside the blanket.
